RESOURCES FOR TEACHERS

Agriculture offers relevant approach to teaching

Because agriculture touches everyone’s life every single day, it offers a powerfully relevant approach to teaching science, mathematics, social studies and language arts. There’s a place for agriculture in your classroom—and materials available to help you get started.

Foundation serves thousands of Virginia teachers

The Virginia Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom has provided services to more than 6,000 Virginia teachers since the start of the program in 1993. During the 2005-2006 school year, 1,012 elementary school teachers participated in training programs while 98 middle school science teachers attended various AITC programs.

Lesson plans and hands-on activities available

The foundation makes available, at no cost to teachers or school systems, lesson plans and hands-on activities that are aligned with the commonwealth’s Standards of Learning and appropriate for incorporation into current classroom curricula. For more information visit www.agintheclass.org today.
